  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cans crescent rolls
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (350°F for colored pan).
  2. Coat the bottom and sides of a Bundt pan with 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine. Sprinkle 1/3 of the raisins and nuts (optional) over the buttered surface.

  4. Add the remaining raisins, nuts, sugar, and water to the melted butter.
  5. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally.
  6. Cut each can of crescent rolls into 10 slices, separating the pinwheels so liquid can penetrate.
  7. Spread half of the caramel sauce over the first layer of dough.
  8. Place the second can of crescent rolls over the first, arranging the pinwheels over the first roll.
  9. Pour the remaining caramel sauce over the dough.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  11. Cool for 3 minutes, then turn the bundt pan over onto wax paper or a plate to serve.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using dark brown sugar instead of light. If you don't have nuts on hand, you can substitute them with seeds or omit them entirely. To make the buns more festive, try adding spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the caramel sauce. If you want a different twist, you can also use Sweet Pear Loaf slices for an added layer of flavor.

Serving Suggestions

These caramel swirl buns are best enjoyed warm, drizzled with extra caramel sauce if desired. Pair them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert or serve alongside a cup of coffee for a delightful brunch treat. They also make a sweet addition to any breakfast spread, complementing dishes like Puffed Mashed Potatoes or Aunt Patty'S 24 Hour Salad.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover caramel swirl buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to a week. To reheat, place in a microwave for 15-20 seconds or warm in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes, keeping them covered with foil to prevent drying out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make the caramel sauce ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the caramel sauce in advance and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just reheat it gently on the stove or in the microwave before using it in the recipe. This can save you time on the day you plan to make the buns.

Is it possible to use a different type of roll?

Absolutely! While crescent rolls are traditional, you can substitute with other types of dough such as biscuit dough or even puff pastry for a flakier texture. Just adjust the baking time as needed to ensure they cook through properly.

Can I make this recipe vegan?

Yes, you can easily adapt this recipe to be vegan by using plant-based butter and ensuring the crescent rolls are dairy-free. You can also substitute the brown sugar with coconut sugar for a healthier alternative, making this an excellent option for a variety of dietary preferences.
