Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 3 tablespoons carob
  • 1/2 cup cooking oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar and flour; set aside.
  2. Boil oleo, carob, cooking oil, and water.
  3. Add the boiling mixture to the flour mixture and stir well.
  4. Add soda to the buttermilk and then incorporate into the mixture.
  5. Add beaten eggs, vanilla, and a pinch of salt, and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour batter into a greased broiler pan and bake at 375°F for 35 minutes.
