Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Stir in shredded Cheddar cheese.
  3. Combine milk and beaten egg; add to dry ingredients and mix just until moistened.
  4. Spoon the batter into a greased and floured 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 45 minutes.
  6. Cool for 5 minutes; remove from pan.
