- Saute onion in margarine until tender, but not brown.
- Add flour to make a paste with margarine and onion.
- Gradually stir in milk and liquid reserved from mushrooms, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Add chicken broth and continue cooking and stirring just until boiling.
- Stir in cooked potato and mushrooms.
- Heat through and remove from heat.
- Stir in cheese until melted.
