Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. hamburger
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine hamburger, egg, cracker crumbs, chopped onion, 1/3 cup tomato sauce, salt, oregano, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Mix well and shape into a flat rectangle about 10 x 12 inches on waxed paper.
  3. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the meat rectangle.
  4. Roll up the meat like a jelly roll; press the ends to seal.
  5. Place in a shallow baking dish and bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
  6. Drain off excess fat from the dish.
  7. Pour remaining tomato sauce over the rolled meat and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
