Cheese-topped tomatoes feature flavorful seasoned cheese baked atop fresh tomatoes, making a delightful appetizer or side dish perfect for casual gatherings or family meals.

Ingredients

  • 5 medium tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup soft breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • dash of dried whole basil
  • dash of ground oregano

Instructions

  1. Remove stems from tomatoes and cut a 1/4 inch slice from the top of each.
  2. Combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, melted butter, salt, sugar, garlic powder, basil, and oregano, stirring well.
  3. Press about 2 tablespoons of the cheese mixture on top of each tomato.
  4. Place the tomatoes in a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
