- Cook the ground beef until brown. Remove from heat and drain oil. Add the catsup, grated cheese, chopped onion, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Mix well and set aside.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the shortening and cut into the flour until the size of peas.
- Add the milk and mix quickly and lightly.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured board and knead.
- Roll into a rectangle measuring 10 x 12 inches.
- Spread the beef and cheese filling over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
- Moisten the edges with cold water. Roll up the dough like a jelly roll, sealing the edges and pinching the ends together.
- Place on a lightly greased shallow pan and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
