Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup catsup
  • 2/3 cup grated cheese
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the ground beef until brown. Remove from heat and drain oil. Add the catsup, grated cheese, chopped onion, salt, and pepper to taste.
  2. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the shortening and cut into the flour until the size of peas.
  4. Add the milk and mix quickly and lightly.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured board and knead.
  6. Roll into a rectangle measuring 10 x 12 inches.
  7. Spread the beef and cheese filling over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
  8. Moisten the edges with cold water. Roll up the dough like a jelly roll, sealing the edges and pinching the ends together.
  9. Place on a lightly greased shallow pan and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25 to 30 minutes.
