- Cream margarine and sugar together.
- Add vanilla to the creamed mixture.
- Stir in eggs, one at a time, until well combined.
- Add flour and chopped nuts to the mixture.
- Mix everything well to form a thick batter.
- Spread three-fourths of the batter evenly in an ungreased 13 x 9-inch pan.
- Spread cherry pie filling evenly over the batter.
- Drop remaining batter by spoonfuls on top of the filling.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
- Allow the pastry to cool completely after baking.
- Cut into squares for serving.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
