- Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of the sifted mixture over the dates and cherries.
- Cream together sugar, butter, and eggs until light and fluffy.

- Fold in the fruit and nuts last.
- Pour batter into two buttered loaf pans.
- Bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
