Ingredients

  • 2 c. cut dates
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1/2 lb. oleo
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Cook the chopped dates, 1/4 cup sugar, and water until thick.
  2. Cool the date mixture.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Cream the oleo, white sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
  5. Mix the creamed mixture with the cooled date mixture and beat well.
  6. Add chopped nuts to the mixture and stir to combine.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a greased cookie sheet.
  8. Brush the tops of the cookies with beaten egg.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
