Tips & Substitutions
For added depth of flavor, consider sautéing the onions and peppers in a little bacon grease instead of oil. If you prefer a spicier chili, add diced jalapeños or cayenne pepper to taste. Substitute ground turkey for chicken breast for a lighter option, or use a combination of ground chorizo and beef for a richer flavor. Fresh cilantro can replace parsley for a more vibrant taste.
Serving Suggestions
Serve the chili hot, garnished with fresh parsley or cilantro. It pairs beautifully with tortillas or hearty bread for dipping. For a complete meal, consider serving alongside a fresh salad or cornbread. This dish also complements other Mexican recipes or can be enjoyed with a side of avocado or sour cream for added creaminess.
Storage & Reheating
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, warm the chili in a pot over low heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Alternatively, you can microwave individual portions for about 2-3 minutes, stirring halfway through. For longer storage, freeze in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months.
