Ingredients

  • 3 slices bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper (optional)
  • 1/3 cup salad dressing
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 slices bread, made into cubes
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Add 3 slices of bread cut into 1-inch cubes to a greased casserole dish.
  2. In a bowl, beat the eggs and milk together.
  3. Pour the egg and milk mixture over the bread and let it stand overnight or for several hours to soak.
  4. Spread the chicken or turkey, chopped celery, chopped onion, chopped green pepper (if using), salad dressing, and salt evenly over the soaked bread.
  5. Top with the remaining 3 slices of bread cut into cubes.
  6. Bake the casserole for 1 hour at 350°F (175°C).
  7. About 10 minutes before baking is complete, add soup over the top of the dish.
  8. Sprinkle with buttered bread crumbs made from 2 slices of bread.
  9. Return to the oven and bake until golden and bubbly.
