Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, marinate the chicken in the poultry seasoning overnight. You can substitute the frozen mixed vegetables with fresh ones to enhance the dish's texture. If you're short on time, pre-cooked rotisserie chicken can also be used. Adjust the amount of milk in the batter to achieve your desired dumpling consistency.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Chicken With Dumplins hot, garnished with fresh parsley for a pop of color. This dish pairs beautifully with a side of Barn Yard Salad for a refreshing contrast. For a heartier meal, consider serving it with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce or alongside Lisa'S Broccoli Casserole for a comforting spread.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in a microwave-safe dish and cover with a damp paper towel to retain moisture, heating in 1-minute intervals until warmed through. Alternatively, reheat in a skillet over low heat, adding a splash of water or broth to keep the dumplings moist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the chicken and stew base ahead of time, but it's best to add the dumplings just before serving to ensure they remain fluffy and tender. Store the base separately and combine when ready to cook.

What type of chicken is best for this recipe?

Using a whole cut-up chicken provides great flavor and texture. Bone-in, skin-on pieces work best, but you can use boneless chicken breasts or thighs if preferred. Just adjust cooking time as needed.

Can I use a different soup instead of cream of chicken?

Absolutely! You can substitute with cream of mushroom soup for a different flavor profile, or even a vegetable soup for a lighter option. Just keep in mind it may alter the overall taste of the dish.
