Ingredients

  • 1 (21 oz.) can cherry pie filling
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
  2. Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan and spread cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom.
  3. In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, combine water, oil, vinegar, and vanilla.
  5. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients all at once and stir just to moisten.
  6. Pour the batter evenly over the cherry pie filling in the prepared pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then invert onto a serving plate and cool completely.
