- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the salad oil, unbeaten egg yolks, cold water, and vanilla.
- Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the egg whites into the batter.
- Add the grated bittersweet chocolate and fold until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into an ungreased chiffon or tube pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Invert the pan and let the cake cool completely before removing.
