Ingredients

  • 3 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 squares bitter chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift the cake flour, baking soda, and salt three times.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the beaten eggs gradually and blend well.
  4. Stir in the melted bitter chocolate and chopped nuts.
  5. Fold in the sifted flour and buttermilk lightly until just combined.
  6. Add the vanilla extract and mix gently.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased angel food cake pan.
  8. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
