Ingredients

  • 1 c. salad oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Beat salad oil, egg, warm water, molasses, sugar, and vanilla well.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cocoa, cloves, cinnamon, and baking soda.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well. Batter will be sticky.
  4. Refrigerate the batter overnight.
  5. Roll the dough on a floured board.
  6. Cut into desired sizes with a donut cutter.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes on the middle rack.
  8. Frost with Vanilla Icing after cookies are cool.
