Ingredients

  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add the sugar and beaten egg to the creamed butter and mix well.
  3. Dissolve the soda and cocoa in the sour milk, then add to the mixture.
  4. Work in the flour gradually while beating 100 times until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a well-greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
