Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 vegetable shortening
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Beat shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time; mix well.
  3. Mix flour and cocoa together.
  4. Add flour and milk alternately; mix well.
  5. Fold in chopped pecans and vanilla.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared pan and bake at 325°F for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake stand in the pan for 15 minutes before removing.
