Ingredients

  • 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 2/3 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. light Karo syrup

Instructions

  1. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and let them cool.
  2. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium-low until fluffy.
  4. Add vanilla, Karo syrup, and egg to the butter mixture and mix until well blended.
  5. Refrigerate the dough until it is firm, about 30 minutes.
  6. Shape the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and roll each in additional sugar.
  7. Place the dough balls on an ungreased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until edges are lightly browned, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  9. Let the cookies stand for 1 minute after baking, then remove from the baking sheet.
