Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sifted flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Separate the eggs, placing yolks and whites in different bowls.
  4. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks with sugar and vanilla extract until pale and creamy.
  6. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the egg yolk mixture.
  7. Gently fold in the beaten egg whites until well combined.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the cake to cool before removing from the pan and serving.
