Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and baking soda.
  2. Cream the butter until smooth, then gradually add the sugar, beating until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and molasses to the creamed mixture and beat until well blended.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing well until fully combined.
  5. Wrap the dough in wax paper and chill overnight.
  6. Roll out a portion of the chilled dough on a floured surface.
  7. Cut out cookies with cookie cutters.
  8. Repeat rolling and cutting until all the dough is used.
