Ingredients

  • buttermilk
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • brown sugar
  • salt
  • lemon juice
  • 1 bottle rum
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 c. dried fruit

Instructions

  1. Sample the rum and check for quality.
  2. Select a large mixing bowl and measuring cup, then check the rum again for quality.
  3. Ensure the rum is just right.
  4. Beat one cup of butter in a fluffy bowl using an electric mixer.
  5. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again.
  6. Add eggs and dried fruit, then beat until very high.
  7. If fruit gets stuck in beaters, pry it out with a screwdriver.
  8. Sample the rum again, checking for consistency.
  9. Sift in three cups of baking powder, then add a pinch of rum, one teaspoon of salt, and other spices as desired.
  10. Test the rum again after adding ingredients.
  11. Sift in half a pint of lemon juice, fold in chopped buttermilk, and add strained nuts.
  12. Sample the rum again before serving.
