Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening, brown sugar, and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, soda, and baking powder.
  4. Add alternately with buttermilk to the creamed mixture.
  5. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon to make the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  6. Pour half the batter into a prepared loaf pan.
  7. Sprinkle with 2/3 of the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Add remaining batter on top.
  9. Sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture.
  10. Swirl with a knife to create a marbled effect.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 40 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
