- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan. Add carrots, celery, and onion. Cover and cook for 10 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally.
- Add rice, salt, cinnamon sticks, currants, and water to the pan. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat to simmer, cover, and cook for 10 to 15 minutes until rice is tender and water is absorbed.
- Remove the cinnamon sticks. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and adjust seasonings if needed.
