Ingredients

  • 8 oz. chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups quick oats
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup melted butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped dates and water in a saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally for 3 to 4 minutes or until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  5. Reserve the date filling.
