Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix shortening, brown sugar, and salt together until well combined.
  3. Add eggs, hot coffee, vanilla, and blend well.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until smooth.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
  7. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
