Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. margarine, softened
  • 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add milk, sugar, salt, and margarine. Stir in 2 cups of flour and beat until smooth with mixer.
  3. Add one cup of flour and beat with wooden spoon until smooth (about 150 strokes).
  4. Gradually stir in enough flour (2 1/2 to 3 cups) to make a soft dough.
  5. Knead on floured board until elastic.
  6. Let rest, covered with towel, for 20 minutes.
  7. Divide dough into two loaves.
  8. Wrap in plastic wrap.
  9. Will rise in refrigerator in 2 to 24 hours.
  10. Leave out uncovered for 10 minutes before baking at 400°F for 30 to 40 minutes.
