Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups drained cherries
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, margarine, milk, baking powder, salt, and flour until smooth.
  2. Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch casserole dish.
  3. Spread drained cherries evenly on top of the batter; dot with margarine and sprinkle with 1 cup sugar.
  4. Pour boiling water over the entire mixture.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 35 minutes.
  6. Cherries will sink to the bottom and form a sauce during baking.
  7. Serve warm with ice cream.
