Ingredients

  • 2 c. cornmeal
  • 1 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • enough sweet milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a mixing bowl, stir together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the egg and shortening to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Gradually pour in enough sweet milk to form a good thin batter, stirring until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees until golden brown and cooked through.
