Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla or lemon flavoring
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, butter, sugar, and eggs thoroughly.
  2. Stir in milk and flavoring.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Then stir into sugar mixture.
  4. Chill dough.
  5. Roll thin and cut into desired shapes.
  6. Place on lightly greased baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Bake at 425°F for 5 to 7 minutes or until delicately browned.
