Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, shortening, cinnamon, flour, and nuts; set aside 1/2 cup for topping.
  2. Combine the remaining ingredients and mix well with the remaining flour mixture.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased and floured pan.
  4. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture on top.
  5. Bake at 350°F for about 30 to 45 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
