Ingredients

  • 5 oz. plain flour
  • 4 oz. medium oatmeal
  • 2 oz. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 oz. margarine, lard or clarified dripping
  • 2 oz. syrup
  • vanilla flavoring

Instructions

  1. Cream together the fat, sugar, and syrup.
  2. Add the flour, oatmeal, baking powder, and a few drops of vanilla extract.
  3. Knead until the mixture binds together.
  4. Roll out about 1/4-inch thick and cut into rounds or fingers.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven until golden brown, approximately 20 minutes.
