Ingredients

  • 1 quart corn syrup or 2 cups sugar
  • 2 quarts buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 tablespoons soda
  • 1 tablespoon maple flavor
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • Graham flour (enough to make a stiff dough)

Instructions

  1. Melt the margarine in a saucepan.
  2. Add corn syrup or sugar, buttermilk or sour milk, soda, maple flavor, vanilla, and salt to the melted margarine. Stir well.
  3. Gradually add graham flour until a stiff dough forms.
  4. Press the dough into cake pans and bake at 350° to 400° F until done.
  5. Allow to cool, then put through a 1/4-inch Grape-Nuts screen to break into small pieces.
  6. Spread the broken pieces on cookie sheets and toast in a slow oven until lightly browned and crisp.
