Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 c. flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp. orange juice
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 2 c. chopped dates
  • 1 grated orange rind
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, flour, soda, salt, buttermilk, orange juice, nuts, dates, orange rind, and vanilla together until well combined.
  2. Bake in a tube pan at 350°F for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  3. When done, while still hot, pour sauce over the cake.
