Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 baked pie shell

Instructions

  1. Mix together the sugar and flour.
  2. Add the milk and cook in a double boiler until thick, about 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and add beaten egg yolks.
  4. Mix cocoa with enough boiling water to make a paste.
  5. Add the cocoa paste to the mixture in the double boiler.
  6. Return to heat and cook until thick.
  7. Remove from heat.
  8. Add butter and vanilla. Cool and pour into baked pie shell.
  9. Top with meringue.
  10. Brown in a 325°F oven.
