- Mix together the sugar and flour.
- Add the milk and cook in a double boiler until thick, about 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add beaten egg yolks.
- Mix cocoa with enough boiling water to make a paste.
- Add the cocoa paste to the mixture in the double boiler.
- Return to heat and cook until thick.
- Remove from heat.
- Add butter and vanilla. Cool and pour into baked pie shell.
- Top with meringue.
- Brown in a 325°F oven.
