Ingredients

  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1 lb. mixed fruit
  • 1 c. nut meats

Instructions

  1. Combine raisins, water, sugar, and butter in a saucepan.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Preheat oven to 275°F (135°C).
  4. Mix the cooled fruit mixture with eggs, flour, baking powder, salt, soda, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, mixed fruit, and nut meats until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into two greased loaf pans.
  6. Bake slowly at 275°F (135°C) for 2 hours until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
