Ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Boil margarine, shortening, cocoa, and water together until liquid.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients (sugar, self-rising flour, soda, cinnamon) in a mixer bowl.
  3. Add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Beat in eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Pour the thin batter into a greased and floured oblong pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes.
  7. Frost with fudge icing once cooled.
  8. Serve hot with ice cream or whipped topping.
