Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. dates, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. walnuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, sprinkle the baking soda over the boiling water. Cool the mixture.
  2. Add the sugar and egg; beat well.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, chopped dates, vanilla, salt, and chopped walnuts to the mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 1/4 hours.
