Ingredients

  • 10 oz. chopped dates
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine chopped dates and water.
  4. Bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Let cool.
  6. In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, and chopped walnuts.
  7. Stir in melted butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  8. Press the date mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  9. Sprinkle the crumbly mixture over the date layer.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
