Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Mix the butter or margarine, sugar, egg, and vanilla until well combined to make the dough.
  2. Add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the mixture and blend until smooth.
  3. Stir in the chopped dates and nuts until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  4. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  6. Allow to cool briefly on the baking sheets before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
