Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups unsifted flour
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 2 cups nuts (pecans or walnuts)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  1. Cream together butter, sugar, vanilla, soda (dissolved in 1 tablespoon water), and eggs.
  2. Combine flour, chopped dates, nuts, cinnamon, and allspice in a separate bowl.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. Drop teaspoonfuls of the batter onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, spacing them fairly far apart.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden brown.
