Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 beaten eggs
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups chopped dates
  • 2 cups pecans
  • 2 tablespoons orange peel

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add beaten eggs to the mixture and blend well.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda, and other dry ingredients.
  4. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, mixing thoroughly.
  5. Fold in chopped dates, pecans, and orange peel.
  6. Pour batter into a prepared baking pan and bake at 275°F (135°C) for 2 hours.
