Ingredients

  • 1 cup dates, chopped fine
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Pour hot water over chopped dates and soda. Dissolve and let cool.
  2. Mix the sugar, butter, flour, egg, and nuts together.
  3. Add the cooled date mixture to the dry ingredients and combine thoroughly.
  4. Pour the batter into a 9 x 9-inch pan.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Crumble the baked cake in a dish and alternate layers with vanilla pudding.
  7. Serve topped with whipped cream. Optional: add miniature marshmallows and bananas.
