Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups hot milk
  • 2 beaten egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 egg whites

Instructions

  1. Mix brown sugar, salt, flour, and cornstarch together.
  2. Stir the dry mixture slowly into hot milk until combined.
  3. Cook the mixture until thickened.
  4. Add beaten egg yolks to the mixture and cook for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  5. Add butter, vanilla, chopped dates, and chopped pecans to the mixture.
  6. Allow the filling to cool.
  7. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  8. Pour the filling into baked pie crusts.
  9. Refrigerate for at least one hour.
  10. Serve topped with a dollop of whipped cream.
