Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 1 pound dates
  • 1.5 pounds shelled pecans
  • 1.5 pounds shelled English walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice

Instructions

  1. Seed and cut the dates.
  2. Break the nuts into large pieces.
  3. In a large container, combine the dates and nuts with the flour and mix well.
  4. Cream the butter and gradually add the sugar until well blended.
  5. Add cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg to the mixture.
  6. Beat the eggs slightly and blend them into the mixture.
  7. Dissolve the soda in hot water and pour over the date and nut mixture.
  8. Mix thoroughly.
  9. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.
  10. Bake at 350°F until golden brown.
