Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 c. sifted White Lily flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2/3 c. buttermilk
  • 3 sq. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2/3 c. boiling water
  • 3/4 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, salt, and baking soda together and set aside.
  2. Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar together.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well.
  4. Stir chocolate into boiling water to dissolve.
  5. To the creamed mixture, alternately add flour, buttermilk, and chocolate, blending well after each addition.
  6. Stir in vanilla.
