Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3 packages yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Warm together shortening, milk, sugar, and mashed potatoes; set aside.
  2. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
  3. Add yeast to the warm mixture.
  4. Gradually add other warm ingredients while stirring.
  5. Add flour gradually as you stir to form a dough.
  6. Let the dough rise in the refrigerator, covered.
  7. Punch down the dough, knead, and roll out.
  8. Shape into rolls.
  9. May keep part of the dough in the refrigerator; will keep for a week.
  10. Bake in a 350°F oven until brown as desired.
