Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp. margarine
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. grated orange rind
  • 1 1/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/2 c. applesauce
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Grease a 15 x 10 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. In a large mixer bowl, cream margarine and brown sugar.
  4. Add beaten egg and beat well.
  5. Add applesauce, grated orange rind, and vanilla; mix until combined.
  6. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and soda.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing well.
  8. Fold in chopped nuts.
  9. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  10. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool before slicing into squares.
