Dixie'S Apple Dumplings
Juicy sliced brisket with a smoky, savory barbecue sauce, complemented by sweet apple dumplings and classic sides, perfect for hearty family dinners or weekend gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 large apple ⓘ
- 8 Pillsbury crescent rolls ⓘ
- 1 cup orange juice ⓘ
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 stick margarine
- 1 (5 to 6 lb.) beef brisket, trimmed ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. liquid smoke ⓘ
- 1 tsp. celery salt ⓘ
- 1 tsp. garlic salt ⓘ
- 1 tsp. onion salt ⓘ
- Lemon pepper seasoning ⓘ
- 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 6 oz. barbecue sauce ⓘ
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/2 cup water ⓘ
Instructions
- Place the brisket on a large piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
- Sprinkle the brisket with liquid smoke, celery salt, garlic salt, and onion salt.
- Wrap the brisket in foil and refrigerate overnight or for at least 5 hours.
- When ready to bake, sprinkle the brisket with lemon pepper seasoning and Worcestershire sauce.
- Reseal the foil around the brisket.
- Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 4 to 5 hours.
- Uncover the foil and pour barbecue sauce over the meat.
- Cook with the foil open for another 30 minutes.
- Remove the brisket to a platter and let cool before slicing.
- Remove excess fat and discard it from the remaining juice in the dish.
- Place the remaining juice in a saucepan.
- Add 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 cup of water, and additional barbecue sauce to thicken the sauce.
- Serve the sliced brisket with the sauce, mayonnaise, and rolls as a sandwich.
- Serve with a large green salad, baked beans, and dessert.
