Ingredients

  • 1 large apple
  • 8 Pillsbury crescent rolls
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 stick margarine
  • 1 (5 to 6 lb.) beef brisket, trimmed
  • 2 Tbsp. liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp. celery salt
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. onion salt
  • Lemon pepper seasoning
  • 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 oz. barbecue sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Place the brisket on a large piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  2. Sprinkle the brisket with liquid smoke, celery salt, garlic salt, and onion salt.
  3. Wrap the brisket in foil and refrigerate overnight or for at least 5 hours.
  4. When ready to bake, sprinkle the brisket with lemon pepper seasoning and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Reseal the foil around the brisket.
  6. Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 4 to 5 hours.
  7. Uncover the foil and pour barbecue sauce over the meat.
  8. Cook with the foil open for another 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the brisket to a platter and let cool before slicing.
  10. Remove excess fat and discard it from the remaining juice in the dish.
  11. Place the remaining juice in a saucepan.
  12. Add 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 cup of water, and additional barbecue sauce to thicken the sauce.
  13. Serve the sliced brisket with the sauce, mayonnaise, and rolls as a sandwich.
  14. Serve with a large green salad, baked beans, and dessert.
